IF ISRAEL FORGETS THE HOLOCAUST

Il conflitto Israelo Palestinese è acceso e rischia di travolgere anche altre nazioni. Da un popolo, come quello israeliano, che ha subìto deportazione ed olocausto ci si aspetterebbe maggiore comprensione e rispetto per popoli che hanno fedi ed usanze diverse, ancor più se si tratta di minoranze. Ed invece tutto il mondo sta assistendo inorridito agli attacchi nel territorio palestinese di Israele. Evidentemente in nome di una presunta superiorità, nei fatti inesistente! Certo il primo attacco è stato di Hamas, ma Hamas è una forza di liberazione non è e non rappresenta la Palestina, pur esprimendo ideali condivisi per l’oppressione subita in tanti anni. Un conto è la difesa sul proprio suolo, altro è attaccare per “rappresaglia” la popolazione inerme. E poi c’è la deportazione di tutti gli abitanti di Gaza, “invitati” a spostarsi a sud, lasciando case e beni personali. Metodi di Israele che ricordano molto (troppo!) le azioni naziste di hitleriana memoria. In Israele è in Palestina ci sono stato ed ho visto il muro, una prigione a cielo aperto ma controllato, i check point armati, un popolo affamato, sfrattato e sotto assedio. C’è da augurarsi che si fermi la guerra e si apra il dialogo, trovando una soluzione pacifica, in grado di spegnere il fuoco nella polveriera mediorientale.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is heated and threatens to overwhelm other nations as well. From a people, such as Israel, who have suffered deportation and holocaust, one would expect greater understanding and respect for peoples of different faiths and customs, even more so if they are minorities. Instead, the whole world is watching in horror the attacks in the Palestinian territory of Israel. Evidently in the name of a presumed superiority, which in fact does not exist! Of course, the first attack was by Hamas, but Hamas is a liberation force, it is not and does not represent Palestine, although it expresses shared ideals for the oppression it has suffered over so many years. It is one thing to defend oneself on one’s own soil, but it is another to attack the defenceless population in “retaliation”. And then there is the deportation of all Gaza, “invited” to move south, leaving behind homes and personal belongings. Israel’s methods are very reminiscent (too much!) The Nazi actions of Hitler’s memory. I’ve been to Israel and Palestine and I’ve seen the wall, an open-air but controlled prison, armed checkpoints, a people who are hungry, evicted and under siege. It is to be hoped that the war will be stopped and dialogue will be opened, finding a peaceful solution, capable of extinguishing the fire in the Middle Eastern powder keg.
